Nurturing yoga
I offer 60-minute private 1-1 Yoga classes in Havelock North, NZ for women at any stage of motherhood, including the postnatal stage (from 6 weeks after birth).
I use a combination of Restorative, Yin, and Gentle Yoga to nurture your body and mind and help you relax, destress, and reset your nervous system. Classes are tailored specifically to you and your requirements, enabling us to work together to help you achieve your goals and choose the right combination of yoga for you.
There are many benefits to doing slower, more gentle yoga such as improved strength and flexibility, mental resilience, increased connection with and awareness of your body, and many more. It is particularly good for slowly rebuilding strength after birth.
Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga are similar in that they both involve holding specific poses for a longer time than in other yoga classes. However, Restorative Yoga involves the use of props such as bolsters & blankets, enabling you to stay in a pose with ease. We also have eye pillows and candles… it is truly a beautiful, nurturing experience designed to restore balance in both mind and body. Whether you’ve been doing yoga for years or have never tried it before, Restorative Yoga is the perfect way to show your body some love and take your wellbeing to a new level.
The best thing about having private sessions is that they can be designed especially for YOU and your personal needs. I am also currently learning more about therapeutic yoga in order to better support my students and their health needs.

Still not sure if slow, gentle yoga is right for you?
Yoga is being seen more and more as a fitness class here in the west, but this wasn’t really the original purpose. It was all about bringing the mind and body into balance and this is what I love most about yoga, it recalibrates the nervous system and helps us take what we learn on the mat into our life off the mat.
When our nervous system is out of balance and/or under pressure we can experience:
more anxiety
feelings of overwhelm
shortness of temper
stress
trouble sleeping
weight gain
and more
All of which can leave us struggling to cope with both the big and little stuff - and there’s plenty of both in the world right now, especially for parents.
My yoga sessions are primarily designed to activate your parasympathetic nervous system (i.e. your natural chill and relax system), leaving you feeling calm, blissed-out, gently restored, and more able to deal with the inevitable stresses of looking after a little one (however scrummy they are). Restorative Yoga can also help to gently increase flexibility and soothe aches and pains which makes it such a valuable tool in our wellness box.
The advantage of private sessions is that the class is tailored to your specific needs and requirements, taking into account any injuries, etc. that you may need to be careful of, so we can choose whether to do all Restorative Yoga or mix in other styles to help you achieve your goals - gently of course. You can also do away with that pesky fear of comparison that often crops up in group classes, especially when you are new to something. Starting out with some private lessons can also be a great way to feel more confident about attending group classes in the future as it helps you to learn more about yoga and get more connected to your body.
These sessions are low-impact and accessible for all body types, requiring zero previous experience of yoga. No crazy positions, no extreme flexibility required, and no getting super hot and sweaty. This is just pure bliss for your mind and body. It’s like the yogic equivalent of massage + meditation combined - like I said, pure bliss!
Oh, and there are also candles, relaxing music, blankets, and eye pillows - what’s not to love about that! This really is the best gift you can give yourself as a busy mum. If you want to know more then feel free to drop me an email and ask away. Otherwise, why not book a class and come and see for yourself if it’s for you.
