OLD FAVOURITES - MINI BOOK DRAGONS
The following books are classics that children and parents love just as much today as when they were first published.
They make a great addition to every Little Book Dragon Collection.
GUESS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU? by Sam McBratney
Join Little Nutbrown Hare and Big Nutbrown Hare as they try to explain how much they love each other. With it’s beautiful illustrations and simple, heartwarming story this is a book that rightly deserves a place in every home. We still tell our kids we love them ‘to the moon and back again’ - even though they’re in their twenties! (Proof that books create connections for a lifetime)
THE GRUFFALO by Julia Donaldson
Would any list of favourites be complete without The Gruffalo? I think not! The rhymes, a brave little mouse, a Gruffalo… what’s not to love?
GIRAFFES CAN’T DANCE by Giles Andreae
A beautiful book about finding your confidence and daring to be different. Funny and full of beautiful illustrations, this has been a bestseller for over twenty years.
LET’S GO HOME, LITTLE BEAR by Martin Waddell
A delightful exploration of sounds, fears, and who makes us feel safe. This was a favourite bedtime story in our house, and I still have a copy ready and waiting for any grandchildren.
THE OWL WHO WAS AFRAID OF THE DARK by Jill Tomlinson
This magical story is a perfect way to gently address fears and anxieties about nighttime and offer reassurance.
I WILL NEVER NOT EVER EAT A TOMATO by Lauren Child
As a parent, Charlie and Lola books were my favourite to read. They are beautifully designed and brilliantly deal with a whole range of little life challenges. Tomatoes will forever be known as moon squirters in our house thanks to this book… and all my children love to eat them.
THE TIGER WHO CAME TO TEA by Judith Kerr
Published over 50 years ago, this enchanting story of a tiger who came to tea has been loved by millions ever since - and has doubtless inspired many tea parties with a toy tiger as the guest of honour!
ROOM ON THE BROOM by Julia Donaldson
I make no apologies for having two of Julia Donaldson’s books on this list, she is a master storyteller and this book has become a classic for good reason. This is sure to become a favourite in your household too.
WE’RE GOING ON A BEAR HUNT by Michael Rosen
This book inspires every child to recite the rhymes while out on a walk - at least that’s how it worked with my kids. It’s funny, interactive, and the perfect example of a timeless tale. My kids loved the board game too!
ELMER by David McKee
Elmer is a gentle story about being different and helps children build both confidence and empathy.
HAIRY MACLARY FROM DONALDSON’S DAIRY by Lynley Dodd
Thanks to my Kiwi in-laws this New Zealand classic (and all the others in the series) was a big hit in our house. From Hairy Maclary to Schitzel Von Krumm (with the very low tum) the rhymes and story are great fun and will delight parents and children equally.
DOGGER by Shirley Hughes
Dogger is Dave’s favourite toy and when he goes missing Dave is devastated. The illustrations are pure nostalgia and the story is gentle whilst wonderfully addressing the real fear of loss that children often have.
