That’s why today’s '40 things every Woman should know after 40’ is all about what success looks like for us as individuals.
And there were many times when I felt like a failure because I didn’t have all those things.
I felt like a failure because I didn’t even really want them.
I hadn’t taken the time to think about what success actually looked like to me. What it really meant to me.
I had just bought into this one size fits all success vision. But as we all know one size never fits all. In fact aiming for someone else’s version of success is a sure fire way to end up feeling a complete failure because even if you get the picture perfect version you won’t feel happy because it doesn’t fit you.
And that’s why it is so important for every woman over 40 to know what her version of success looks like, feels like, hell maybe even bloody smells like. Whatever works for you. Just figure it out because, seriously, who wants to spend the next 40 years chasing someone else’s dream?!
Nowadays I worry less about what others think of me, I am not bothered about competing or keeping up with anyone else, I believe that less is definitely more and am more concerned with inner success than outer. In other words I am basically content to run my own race and define my own life.
So today I ask you, what does your version of success look like?
What are the top 2 or 3 must-haves that will make your life feel truly blessed? Because when you boil it down to the essentials there are usually only a couple of things that any of us must-have to feel successful. For me it is my family, health and daily writing. If I had nothing else in the world but those three things I would consider myself successful and so those are the things I try to focus most on every day because for me everything else is just the icing on top. And while the icing is nice and I like it I can definitely live very happily without it.
So what are your must haves and what is the extra icing on top? Sometimes we get so hung up on chasing the icing and dolloping more and more on top that we forget about the cake underneath, the foundation, the bit that actually matters. You can set goals and aim for that delicious icing but remember that those things do not make you a true success because without the cake to go on it’s all meaningless.
Take the time to identify your must-haves so that you know the difference between true success and icing! And remember your version of success doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. It is your version, your dream, your life. Enjoy it.
